I was doing a letter in Theodore Roosevelt and came across a word I was having trouble with. It was someone who does not have the greatest handwriting but I have done several dozen of his letters. I couldn't figure out the word so I went letter to letter and what I came up with was "marplot". I had never heard of it so I googled it and sure enough it was an old word which means someone who spoils a plot.  So the lesson is if you have trouble with a word, just google it, try variations and see what pops up.
