1 of 1 people found this helpfulUnfortunately, we don't have a name index to the World War I unit records in our custody at the National Archives at College Park, MD, but if you know the unit he served with, we can see if there are records for the unit. They typically do not contain information about specific individuals, but it could provide information about where he fought.

tuffy Jul 22, 2016 1:49 PM (in response to cindygadget)You know what county he was living in after the war. Could check 1920 census for that. I ask because those vets often filed their discharge records there or with the local Legion or VFW when they jioned some states like MN did WWI vet censuses too. My wife says on ancestry there is pictures of the headstone applications from the VA for that era might look there too.

The National Archives at St. Louis has WWI records other than military personnel files (the records that were in the fire). Please write to us at P.O. Box 38757, St. Louis, MO 63138, and let us know what records you received from the National Personnel Records Center. We will see what else may be available.
