Re: During the Civil War my relative Captain Aaron Cutter was on Board a union ship named the, Maumee, a gun boat. Where can I find more information about this ship and it's passengers?

Thank you for using the History Hub! One place to help get you started on your research is the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Database found on the National Parks website: Soldiers and Sailors Database - The Civil War (U.S. National Park Service)Here you can find information on regiments, unit histories, sailors records, ship information, and other personal historical information. The database allows you to search by names, dates of birth, regiments, ships, burial information, and others methods.
Good luck with your research and thank you again for using the History Hub!

aabney2016 Jul 29, 2016 11:42 AM (in response to jhd300)3 people found this helpfulHere's a couple more resources you might try:
The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships has an entry for the Maumee with a very, very brief history of the ship. That will give some names of battles and places which can help in your search.
Additionally, the National Archives at Washington, DC, has a ledger that lists the stores received and used on board the Maumee. The catalog entry is here. Again, I don't know how helpful this is, but, if you contact the Reference Staff at that location, they might be able to direct you to other records from the USS Maumee. They can be reached at Archives1reference@nara.gov.
Finally, it looks like some records from the National Archives relating to Aaron Cutter specifically have been digitized and placed on Fold3.com. These resources are free to view from a National Archives facility, or for viewing off-site, there is a subscription fee.
I hope that helps, and thanks for using History Hub!

John you may also want to contact the Naval History and Heritage Command to see if they have any resources available.
This link will take you to the Naval heritage command website: NHHC
They have a history of the Maumee here: Maumee I (ScGbt)
