We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships, ca. 1801 - 1940 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that includes the deck logs of the USS Tallapoosa for 1886 - 1889. For more information about the non-digitized logs, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We were unable to locate logbooks for 1885.
We also located the Muster Rolls of Naval Ships, 1/1/1860 - 6/9/1900 in Record Group 24 that may include the muster rolls of the U.S.S. Tallapoosa for 1885 - 1889. For more information about the non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at email@example.com.
In addition, we located the Service Records of Enlisted Men, 1798 - ca. 1900 and the Muster Rolls, 1/1798 - 12/1940 in the Records of the U.S. Marine Corps (Record Group 127) that may include your relative.
