Dear Mr. Schroeder,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Adjutant General Unit Records, 7/1965 - 3/1973 in the Records of the U.S. Forces in Southeast Asia (Record Group 472) that only includes daily journals of the 56th Army Postal Unit for 1/1/1971 through 2/8/1972. We also locate the Modification Tables of Organization and Equipment (MTOEs), 1968 - 1972 in Record Group 472 that includes the file unit MTOE 12-605GP501 56th Army Postal Unit. For more information about these non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at email@example.com
In addition, we searched the Army website and located Department of the Army (DA) General Order (GO) No. 3 (1970) that indicated a Meritorious Unit Citation was awarded to the 56th Army Post Unit (in Long Binh Post) in support of military activity in Vietnam from 19 March 1968 through 20 May 1969.
Since the 56th was stationed at the Long Binh Post, it is possible that information about the unit was incorporated into the records of the Post. We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Daily Journals, 2/1968 - 12/1969 of U.S. Army Garrison, Long Binh Post, Vietnam (Provisional) in Record Group 472; the Daily Journals, 7/1967 - 9/1968 of Long Binh Post, Vietnam (Provisional). Headquarters and Headquarters Company in Record Group 472; and Operational Reports - Lessons Learned (ORLL), 1965 - 1972 in Record Group 472 that included Long Binh Post (Provisional): ORLL, Period Ending 30 April 1968; Long Binh Post (Provisional): ORLL, Period Ending 31 July 1968; Long Binh Post (Provisional): ORLL, Period Ending 31 October 1968; Long Binh Post (Provisional): ORLL, Period Ending 31 January 1969; and Long Binh Post (Provisional): ORLL, Period Ending 31 July 1969. For more information about these non-digitized records, please contact RDT2 via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
