Seeking log book for USS Lockwood

    CRAIG DANIELSON Newbie

I would like to find a logbook for the USS Lockwood (DE-10640) for March-April, 1972. How do I go about that?

          Dear Mr. Danielson,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships and Stations, 1941 - 1983 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that include the deck logs of the USS Lockwood (DE-1064) for March and April of 1972. These logs are not currently available via the Catalog. For more information, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) email at archives2reference@nara.gov. Please see the History Hub blog titled Update on Availability of Vietnam Era (1956-1978) US Navy Deck Logs for an explanation.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

If the logs are needed for a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the VA also has digital copies of these deck logs that they should be able to access through their internal systems.  Please contact your nearest VA office for further assistance.

We hope this information is helpful.
