Dear Mr. Strauss,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Project Number Index to the Series "Project Files, 1935-1942" in the Records of the Works Projects Administration (Record Group 69) that may contain information about the project you are researching. The Project Number Index plus the series New York City Indexes, 1935-1943 and the series New York State Indexes, 1935-1943 all relate to the series Project Files, 1935-1942, which is arranged alphabetically by state and then numerically by WPA project number. In addition, we located 90 series of records related to New York and 3 series of records related to Manhattan in Record Group 69 that you may wish to review. These records have not been digitized. Please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about these records.
If you have not done so already, we suggest that you complete a NA Form 14137 - Request Pertaining to Works Progress Administration (WPA) Personnel Records and include as much available information as possible about John J. Cullen. Please mail the completed form to the address on the form or attach it to an email to the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL) at email@example.com.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2 and RL-SL. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Since some WPA records are held locally, we suggest that you contact the New York City Department of Records & Information Services Municipal Archives for additional information.
Finally, we located some information about the United States Work Projects Administration (New York, NY) on the WorldCat Identities website and several additional resources related to the WPA in New York City on WorldCat.org that may contain some relevant information.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
