Seeking Railroad Construction Workers Employment or Residence Records

    Lora Kemp Newbie

My great-grandfather worked in the construction of the railroad in the Dakotas sometime between 1900 and 1920. They set up their home in a boxcar. He was a woodman by occupation. He was from the Mauston, Wisconsin area. He had two daughters and his wife. He returned to Mauston, Wisconsin where he lived out his life. Are there any records that I may be able to access regarding this work event? Any help would be appreciated. I have been searching on Archive.org, Ancestry.com and the web in general and haven't seen many railroad employment records prior to 1920 - 1935.
