Dear M. Machuga,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Baltimore, Maryland, 1891 - 1948 (T844) in the Records of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Record Group 85) that may include the lists of SS Wittekind for May 1906 for a Franz Mendlewski, but not a listing for the SS Roland. We also located Passenger and Crew Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, New York, 6/16/1897 - 7/3/1957 (T715) in the Records of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Record Group 85) that may include the lists of SS Patricia for a Franz Mendelowski in January 1905 and February 3, 1905, but not a listing for the SS Roland. Some of these records have been digitized and are available using the Catalog. For information about the non-digitized records, please email the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) at email@example.com.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1.
The records you seek are now available in digital form and may be viewed online via Ancestry. There may be a fee for using this service. Instead, please check for access at your local library as many library systems subscribe to these sites, making them free for their patrons. Also, some of the images from Ancestry are available for free on FamilySearch.
For the information you seek about the ship departure list of the SS Roland from Germany, we suggest you contact the Bundesarchiv (German National Archive).
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
