Re: anyone know of an online register of vessels and brigs from 1860-65 between Lewes DE and Philadelphia PA?
1 person found this helpfulHi Mr Walsh:
I'm not aware of any online resources, but we do have the Records of Registers and Records of Enrolments for all ships in US from 1815 to early 20th century. One could check all the listings of ports between LEWES and PHILADELPHIA. These volumes can be made available in our central research room in downtown Washington DC.
Also, in the 1930s there were some WPA-type projects which listed ships from various ports. It may be the case that some of the ports of interest to you have such a publication. It might be helpful to check in local libraries and maritime museums. Rather old school of me, but as I mentioned, I'm not aware of any online resources.
The closest thing I can think of is the scanned List of US Merchant Vessels, but this started in 1868.

I checked for John Marthnes, active in Phila/Lewes 1865 as well as the Gloucester and "Flaning" but no results.
