What Happened to Baum Expedition Escapees?

The obituary of my dad’s cousin states that he escaped during the Baum expedition that was sent to rescue General Patton’s son-in-law during WWII. In trying to find out more about his event, I learned that officers like him were taken with the rescuing troops, only to be attacked by Germans after they left the prison camp. Some of them, like my relative, escaped into the woods. After all this trauma, he went on to live a long, successful life. I’m just wondering if any information exists that states how the escaped soldiers got to safety and where that was. I know that the Allies liberated the camp shortly after Baum’s troops were at the camp. Did they find the escapees and bring them back?
