    Seeking records of James Peter McCoy, Sr

      Looking for information on great grandfather, James Peter McCoy Sr, who was killed in 1945. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.

          Also found  Willis McCoy I know someone request his records awhile ago but found his death certificate.



          Anyways here is information below on James P. McCoy. Please see the roster of dead his Z# is also included which you also would need when requesting his records. However, since this was a death he probably will not have an actual discharge but some sort of Individual Deceased Personnel File, IDPFS

            The Merchant Marine Personnel and Licensing Records dated before 1968 in the Records of the U.S. Coast Guard (Record Group 26) are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL). Please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov. Include the name, date of birth, dates of service, "Z" number, and date of death, if known, in your email.


            We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Deceased and War Casualty Merchant Seamen's Records, 1937-1950 in the Records of the U.S. Coast Guard (Record Group 26)  that may include a file for James Peter McCoy, Sr. For more information about these records, please contact RL-SL.
