Seeking Civilian Gate Access Records at Fort Knox

    Ronald Bronson Wayfarer

Hello, Is there any website, library, archival site, or any way to get copies of the gate entry logs for visitor (anyone who was issued a pass for the base) for the months of 02/01/1989 through 02/16/1989? I put in an FOIA request but the government moves at a snails pace and I have yet to hear form them on the status of the request 8 months later. Thanks in advance for any help that is given.

          Dear Mr. Bronson,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog but were unable to locate any records that would be responsive to your inquiry.

Under AR-340-18-5  File Number 511-3, Gate Guard Files, to include registers showing movement of personnel or vehicles into or out of Government facilities and similar papers, were scheduled as temporary and are disposed of after 6 months.  The records you seek may have been destroyed under this schedule.

We suggest that since you have already filed a FOIA request for these records, please wait for the FOIA process to give you an official answer. Please be advised that many agency FOIA offices have had their operations dramatically curtailed by the pandemic.

          We hope this is helpful.
