Looking for military information on Donald Allen Beeson

    Sharie Lieberg Newbie

Looking for military information on Donald Allen Beeson b 1915, who served in USAF from 1947-1950. The military records for my father were destroyed in the fire at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1973.  NPRC was able to recreate only the barest bones of his service record.

I'm seeking anyone who might have anything from his time in service.  His honorable discharge record listed the following information:

      • Member of the 9th Installation Sq., 9th AB Gp
      • Enlistment July 1947, date of separation 30 June 1950
      • Military Occupation Construction Technician 059
      • Stationed in Okinawa 29 Mar 1948 to 1 July 1949
      • Place of separation Fairfield-Suisun AFB, California

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

          Dear Ms. Lieberg,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

Operations reports for your father’s Air Force unit might provide some additional insight into his service. While these records generally do not contain information about individual airmen, they may offer some context for his activities during his time with the Air Force.

The National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) has custody of microfilm copies of operational records relating to the U.S. Air Force units. We searched the Air Force History index to the microfilm and located 14 files that pertain to the 9th Air Base (AB) Group. Please read the brief Abstract to determine which records you are interested in and click on the specific PDF icon. In the PDF listing, the IRISREF is the microfilm reel number and note the FRAME and FRAMELST numbers for the location on the reel. Since the files are on reel numbers that begin with B, please contact RDT2 via email at archives2reference@nara.gov for more information about them. We were unable to locate specific records of the 9th Installation Squadron.  Records of lower echelon units sometimes were incorporated into the files of the group.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
