We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Prisoner of War (POW) Photographs, 1944-1945 in the Records of the Adjutant General’s Office (Record Group 407) that may contain the photographs you are looking for. You can also explore descriptions of other records created by the Adjutant General’s Recovered Personnel Detachment in the Catalog. We also located the series Black and White and Color Photographs of U.S. Air Force and Predecessor Agencies' Activities, Facilities and Personnel - World War II and Korean War, ca. 1940 - ca. 1980 in the Records of U.S. Air Force Commands, Activities, and Organizations (Record Group 342) that contains 2 images related to POWs and Japan, 4 images related to PW and Japan, and 52 images related to prisoner and Japan that may be relevant to your research. Plus, we located the series Subject Files, 1942 - 1946 of the American Prisoner of War Information Bureau in the Records of the Office of the Provost Marshal General (Record Group 389) that include lists of American POWs held by Japan, which might be of interest to you. The series Records Relating to the Collection and Dissemination of Information Concerning American Civilians and Military Personnel Captured or Interned in Enemy Countries in Record Group 389 also contains information about American prisoners of war (POWs) in Japan.
