Seeking US Navy Muster Rolls of USS Trigger

    Tom Boyer Adventurer

Are there Navy muster rolls for ships during the 1970's and are any available on-line? I'm looking for muster rolls for USS Trigger (SS-564) from November 1972 to April 1973.

          Dear Mr. Boyer,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the
Personnel Diaries and Muster Rolls, 1/1/1972 - 1/31/1983 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that may include the muster rolls of the USS Triggers (SS-564) for 1972 through 1973. The original 16mm microfilm had been digitized and the images are available via the Catalog. A number of images may be illegible due to the poor quality of the original microfilm that was transferred to NARA by the Department of the Navy.  The original paper records were destroyed by the Navy after filming. These records have not been digitized and are not available online. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov. Please note that the Muster rolls/Personnel Diaries for 1972-1983 utilize social security numbers as service numbers and are subject to privacy restrictions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2.

We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
