Re: I am looking for Army Enlistment records from 1909, do you have them?
Vernon O'Neil Mar 2, 2016 10:45 AM (in response to Gary Lapine)1 person found this helpfulWhat's the military records archives? The records center in St. Louis that has the personnel files had a fire in 1973, lots of Army personnel records lost in that, but a book of enlistments wouldn't have been there since it's not just about one person. That's probably somewhere else, like in Washington DC or something.

Re: I am looking for Army Enlistment records from 1909, do you have them?
Gary Lapine Mar 3, 2016 7:35 AM (in response to Vernon O'Neil)When seeking military records, there is a federal request form that has to be completed by a relative or designated representative. My cousin filled it out and was informed by St. Louis, that the records no longer exist.
My question is how did the viewer on Ancestry.Com get them.

Thanks for the question. You found your information on Ancestry. I wonder if it's not this same book I found on fold3: https://www.fold3.com/browse/304/hXexiVV7M

Gary Lapine Mar 3, 2016 7:35 AM (in response to Van Zbinden)1 person found this helpfulI have a copy of the Army Register of Enlistments. Which, according to my cousin, when he submitted his federal form to request copies of his father's records, stated that the records had been burnt in the 1973 fire. My question is how did www.fold3 and Ancestry. Com get them? When I got my copy, the viewer was from the National Archives.

3 people found this helpfulAs stated before, the enlistment records you located on Ancestry.com or fold3 is in the custody of the National Archives in Washington, DC. These have not been destroyed. What was destroyed were the Army/Air Force Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) housed at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO due to a fire in 1973 and probably includes the OMPF for your uncle. These are two different sets of records housed in two separate locations. Sorry about the confusion!

Re: I am looking for Army Enlistment records from 1909, do you have them?
Gary Lapine Mar 3, 2016 1:38 PM (in response to Rebecca Collier)Maam,
I thank you, but the information was to be sent to St. Louis, which is only one of the options on the form. As a Veterans Agent in a MA town, I have access to the forms and for requesting info regarding military records. My problem is that St. Louis, keeps telling me that if the do not have the records, they will not accept any other. The enlistment/ discharge records for my uncle was for the purpose of ordering a bronze veterans plaque for his grave, and to hold military honors for him, which was denied at the time of his death forty years ago, due to the loss of his records.
I will check the National Archives and see if they can send a certified copy of the records to me.
Again, my thanks.
