Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!
The Federal Government does not ordinarily create or maintain birth, adoption, death, marriage, or divorce records. Such records are made and kept by State and local governments rather than the National Archives. We suggest searching substitute record sources such as probate records, church records, and newspaper records that may uncover more information about your ancestor. For more information on conducting genealogical research within our records, please visit the following link:
You may wish to search Ancestry or FamilySearch for the U.S. Census. Ancestry is a subscription-based database, but it is available for free public use at all National Archives facilities and many public libraries. FamilySearch is free but you have to create an account with them.
Another suggestion would be to review the FamilySearch Research wiki for Kentucky to see if any additional information can be found:
Another recommendation would be to contact the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives to inquire if they have additional records:
We hope this information is helpful and best of luck with your research!

Thank you very much this is extremely helpful.
Thank you I had I idea of that bishop was married before.
BishopXRosa had caught my eye very quickly, but I wasn’t sure whether it was the same Bishop SMALLWOOD that she was married too, especially as I could not find a 1920’s death for Rosa. However, the 1921 Marriage Certificate cleared that up as it states that both Bishop and Phoebe were divorced.
The other thing that threw me off was the fact that there was a son in the 1920 census ( https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9R62-QD5?i=19 ), but he’d disappeared by the 1930 census. It turns out that he’d died a couple of months after the census that had been held on 5 Jan 1920: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9YL-1S87-T
FYI Bishop states on his 1917 WW1 form that he has a wife + 2 children. One child will be the stepson mentioned on the 1920 Census. I haven’t investigated who the other might have been, but you’d expect that this child would have died before 5 Jan 1920.
thank you very much
