Seeking if William Thornton was in a Home for War Veterans

Were there any soldiers homes created for veterans of the Revolutionary War?  I have an ancestor, William Thornton of Rensselaer Co NY, who is not in the 1840 census with his wife Polly and children, but did not die until 1843. His wife Polly is listed as the head of the house in 1840, . Was he in a soldiers home? He is buried next to his wife in Pittstown Cemetery, Rensselaer Co. NY.
