Re: Seeking information about Theophil Leonhard after 1950
William Sonn Apr 8, 2021 10:53 AM (in response to Alice Lane)Ms. Lane,
Thanks much for your response. Is there any way I can contact the woman who posted the gravesite and letter? I have most of the letter's content, but wanted to feature her and her organization (it dignifies flower-less veterans' graves). I'd like to interview her for my blog. I found her find-a-grave ID, but there's no way that I can see to know her name or contact her. Also, I can't picture how one leaves documents at or on a gravesite. I appreciate any advice you might have. - Bill

Susannah Brooks Apr 8, 2021 12:45 PM (in response to William Sonn)To contact the person who posted the letter, you will need to set up an account on findagrave.com (free). Then click on the name [Backroad traveler] below one page of the letter, which will take you to the person's page. There is a button to send a message.

Dear Mr. Sonn,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub! You may be able to locate Mr. Leonhard on the 1950 census, which will be released in April 2022. This could provide some information about him that may open additional avenues for research. This link will provide some information on the census: https://www.archives.gov/research/genealogy/census. His employment at a private company, involvement in a religious organization, and membership in a social club would not be matters of federal record. If these organizations are still in existence, you may be able to contact them and inquire if they hold records from that era.
Please note that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has suspended reproduction and digitization services until further notice due to COVID-19. Orders will not be serviced until operations can resume safely. Once operations resume, document reproduction requests will be filled in the order in which they were received. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
