Dear Ms. Stevens,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you begin researching with the known and work toward the unknown (ie, begin with yourself working toward grandparents and great-grandparents etc.), documenting each connection as you go. As you come across different spellings, keep a list. You may need to search under an alternate spelling if you are not finding what you want under the common spelling.
Please review NARA’s web pages that include Resources for Genealogists for more suggestions. Also, please refer to the FamilySearch Research wiki Phonetic Substitutes Table or the unofficial Name Thesaurus for more options.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

It's very common to find names spelled in numerous ways in various records - as well as to find variations in the other details. Therefore, it is necessary to thoughtfully compare the information in various records to ensure you are finding your ancestor and not someone else with a similar name.
