Re: Not sure if this falls under genealogy or Military research. I'm looking for a marriage record that took place 16 April 1912 in Manila, Philippines . The groom was a major in the US Army Quartermaster Corp and the bride was a US Nurse. Would there

Quite often there is something in the service record when an in service marriage occurs. Tagging Daria Labinsky

1 person found this helpfulYour best bet is probably the service record. The National Archives in Washington, D.C., has pre-WWI Army records.

Stephen Baxter Jan 29, 2016 6:34 AM (in response to Stephen Baxter)I've tried that with several WWI Veterans, and after paying $$, only get their last pay.
William Daughton was killed in Paris, France in 1919. He was a Major in the Quartermaster Corp. He was crossing the street with his wife when they got hit by a taxi. He was buried in France, but when his wife came to, she requested that he be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
I have received his IDPF (Individual Deceased Personnel File. And there was no mention of his marriage. Of course correspondence with his Next of Kin, wife are included.
I was just curious on how the marriage would be recorded, Either in Manila or some military record.
Thanks for your help.

1 person found this helpfulStephen,
There may be a VA Claim File for either him or his wife, and often those contain proof of marriage. Send the identifying information at the top of the post to the National Archives at St. Louis' archival reference email address, stlarchives@nara.gov and ask if we have a VA Claim File for either of them.

Stephen,
It also might be worthwhile to check the Army's Adjutant General's records, as the local base AG would need a record of the marriage to establish dependents for a military member. If the marriage was in the Manila area, the local base probably was Fort William McKinley, although there were a number of military installations in the area even in 1912 (Fort Mills, Fort Hughes, etc.). The base chaplain could have done the marriage, although off base marriages were not unknown.
This may be a long shot, but it's a possibility.
