Seeking Marine Corps records of David Houck

    edward hamilton Newbie

I can not find my dad's Vietnam records. We know he served from 1961 to 1964 in the US Marine Corps and was also a drummer in the Marines. We were also told he was on a ship in international waters and the ship would go into Vietnam waters for two days to get combat pay then would go back into international waters. We were also told he was a driver for a higher rank when he was stateside. We are looking for friends who served with him also looking for records so we can get headstone.  We have contacted NPRC and are still waiting. His name was David Nelson Houck and he was from New Jersey.

          Dear Mr. Hamilton,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is the only source of Vietnam-era Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPRC is closed except for emergencies. Currently, NPRC will continue servicing requests ONLY associated with medical treatments, burials, and homeless veterans seeking admittance to a homeless shelter. If your request is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines and resubmit your request using the instructions given there. Otherwise, please be patient and wait until public health conditions permit NPRC to resume servicing non-emergency requests. We can not provide any estimates on when the request you have submitted will be fulfilled. Please check archives.gov/veterans for updates to the NPRC operating hours and status. We apologize for any inconvenience.

          We hope this is helpful

            Dear Mr. Hamilton,

Thank you for posting your follow-up request on History Hub!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Personnel Records Center is not currently processing requests for the purposes of headstone applications.  We will continue servicing requests associated with medical treatments, burials, and homeless veterans seeking admittance to a homeless shelter.  Non-emergency requests will not be serviced until operations can resume safely.  Please refrain from submitting your request until we return to pre-COVID-19 staffing levels.  We appreciate your patience in these uncertain times.

More information regarding the NPRC’s Operating Status can be found at https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records-0 .

We hope this information is helpful.

            Sincerely,

            Holly Rivet
