Dear Ms. Boomgaarn,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Index to Vessels Entering the Port of Philadelphia, ca. 1800 - ca. 1880 (M360) and the Inward Foreign Manifests for the Port of Philadelphia, 8/10/1789 - 3/23/1931 (part of M425) in the Records of the U.S. Customs Service (Record Group 36) that may include the arrival of Summerly G Cunningham. For access to M360 & M425, please contact the National Archives at Philadelphia (RE-PA) via email at philadelphia.archives@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RE-PA. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Records from M360 & M425 are available and searchable on Ancestry and FamilySearch, There may be a fee for using Ancestry. Instead, please check for access at your local library as many library systems subscribe to these sites, making them free for their patrons.
If you are unable to locate him arriving in Philadelphia, we suggest that you review these Genealogy: Passenger Arrival List Research Tips and expand your search efforts to other ports.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
