Seeking photos or information about Rochester Ordnance office

    patricia demers Newbie

I wonder where I can locate photos or information for the Rochester Ordnance office, Rochester, New York?  The office was in operation from 1941 through 1946 as far as I can determine, although the start and ending dates might be slightly different.

          Dear Ms. Demers,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 6 series & 11 file units in the Records of the Office of the Chief of Ordnance (Record Group 156) that pertain to the Rochester Ordnance District. For more information, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We also located 3 series of the Rochester Ordnance District in Record Group 156 for 1919-1950. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at New York (RE-NY) at newyork.archives@nara.gov.

Plus, we located a series Telegrams, 4/1941 - 4/1941 in Record Group 156 that include messages sent to Washington, DC from Rochester Ordnance District. For more information, please contact the National Archives at Kansas City (RM-KC) at kansascity.archives@nara.gov.

Photographs of various U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps activities dating from 1940 to 2007 are in the custody of the National Archives at College Park - Still Picture (RDSS). Please contact RDSS via email at stillpix@nara.gov and their web site is https://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/college-park/photographs-dc.html.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2, RE-NY, RM-KC & RDSS. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research.
