          William,

You have any additional information on him like were he was born and DOB. I'm seeing One individual using His middle name Augustus as his first name. Additionally there is spellings for last name use Spang instead of Spain. Any additional information would be helpful. Also I see more for the revolutionary war and not war of 1812

          Thanks,

          Elliot Schneider

            Dear Mr. Spain,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Registers of Enlistments in the United States Army, 1798 - 1914 in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1762 - 1917 (Record Group 94) that include information about enlisted personnel of the Regular Army, but we were unable to locate a listing for him. Likewise, we located the Indexes to the Carded Records of Soldiers Who Served in Volunteer Organizations During the War of 1812 in Record Group 94 but were unable to locate a listing for him. Please note that these records were not created during the war, but were created starting in the 1890s. It may be that some of the soldiers who served are not documented in these records because the original documentation of their service did not survive into the 1890s.  Also, those that served in state militia units not placed under federal control are generally not documented in these records. For more information, you may contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) at Archives1reference@nara.gov.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Also, those that served in state militia units not placed under federal control are generally not documented in the records listed above. Please contact the appropriate state archives for these records.

            We hope this is helpful.
