Seeking information on Aviation Repair Unit, Navy 145

    Timothy Fry Newbie

I am seeking information on Aviation Repair Unit, Navy 145 for 1944-1945. Dad was a Navy mechanic on PBY's on the Solomon islands from 1943-1944.

          Dear Mr. Fry,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archive Catalog and located a series titled World War II Command Files, 1971-2004 in the Records of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (Record Group 38) that contain some records on the aviation repair units.  These files will indicate where these units were assigned.  Also, we located the 3 series of WWII War Diaries in Record Group 38 that may include diaries of the advance base, air station, or air facility where the aviation repair units were assigned. Some of the war diaries have been digitized and are available using the Catalog.  For access to the non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
