I am doing research on a small sawmill town out in Sabine Parish, Louisiana (active from the turn of the 20th century through the 1960s), and have been trying to track down whether there are any inspection records from public authorities related to workplace safety, housing (company-owned homes), and/or the treatment of African Americans in the town. I have checked quite a few places so far with mixed results (Louisiana State Archives, Louisiana Secretary of State, parish public library, state library, NARA, LOC, private individuals and oral histories, Bureau of Labor, NAACP papers, newspapers), but was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions on where to look for this type of thing or if there are other agencies or groups I should be looking into. Thank you!
Dear Ms. Callanan,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
After a thorough search of the National Archives Catalog and online websites, we suggest you review either the OSHA Establishment Search page or the OSHA FOIA page, with the understanding that the records may not include the time period you seek. Without more information as to which agency did the inspecting, we are unable to assist you further at this time.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
