Seeking Hospital Corps Returns for David Nemetzky

    Brandon Dodge Newbie

I am looking for my ancestor, David Nemetzky, in the Hospital Corps Returns from 1912 and earlier. From what I have found so far, he served in the following locations:

      Fort Morgan, Alabama (1906)

      Fort Moultrie, South Carolina (1906-1907)

      Fort Porter, New York (1909)

      Fort Howard, Maryland (1909)

      Fort Wadsworth, New York (1911)

      Division Hospital, Manila, Philippines (1912)

      Tientsin, China (1912)

I am trying to recreate as much as possible his military 201 file. He served from 1904-1931. There is information on his service in this particular set of records (promotions, transfers, etc.) that I am not able to find elsewhere.

            Dear Mr. Dodge,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and individual medical reports for enlisted men of the U.S. Army who were separated from the service after October 1912 and before 1959 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002. If there is any information requested by the form that you do not know, you may omit it or provide estimates (such as for dates), but the more information you provide, the easier it will be to locate the correct file if it survived the fire. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests.

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Returns of Hospital Corps, 1887 - 1911 and Returns of Military Posts, ca. 1800 - 12/1916 in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1762 -1917 (Record Group 94) that may have information regarding his transfers to different posts. Additionally, we located the Registers of Enlistments in the United States Army, 1798 - 1914 and Returns of Military Organizations, ca. 1800 - 12/1916 in the Record Group 94; as well as Lists of Incoming Passengers, 1917-1938 in the Records of the Office of the Quartermaster General (Record Group 92) that may include documents related to him. Please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) at Archives1reference@nara.gov for more information about these records.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1 and RL-SL. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
