 The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the depository of the permanently valuable non-current records of the Federal Government. Women might appear in any number of contexts. However, there is no index that would allow us to easily identify all records throughout the National Archives that are specifically related to women from Northern Idaho. 
 
 When considering research at the National Archives, we suggest that you ask yourself how your subject may have interacted with the federal government, and then focus your attention on records relating to those aspects of the federal government&rsquo;s activities. For example, if a woman acquired land from the federal government, she might appear in Land Records . If a woman petitioned Congress, testified at a Congressional committee, or served in Congress, she might appear in Legislative Records . If a woman served in the military, she might appear in military service records . If a woman was recorded in the Census, she would appear in Census records. If a woman was the subject of a federal court case, she might appear in Judicial Records . There are many more possibilities.
