He received pensions, apparently as a Civil War veteran and then as an Indian War veteran and then as Army Invalid. He died in 1940. I've found various index cards related to these pensions. These files… (Show more)

Asbury Palmer was my great-great-grandfather and oral history says he served in the US Colored Troops during the Civil War, but I cannot locate any documentation to substantiate this. He was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina about 1840.

I am trying to find out information about my mother's side of my family.  Specifically, my mother's and grandmother's history is very clouded and secretive -- both have passed and we are African American.  My mother's married name was Ruther Magdalene Bynum.  My father called her Lucille.  My mother told me her maiden name was Donaldson and that… (Show more)

I am seeking other options available now that I know South Carolina birth records don’t cover the period of my father’s birth. South Carolina, place of father’s birth, birth records date back to only 1915.  However, my father was born between 1896 and 1898. All suggestions are welcome because I want to get the lead I need to continue my search.
