Trying to figure out the maternal grandparents for Preston Bruce who was the White House Doorman from 1953 to 1976. He was born in South Carolina to the parents Rancy Bruce and Amanda Jane Dudley. From my research I have found out the Amanda's parents were Celia Turnage and Samuel Dudley. I am trying to find out who Samuel's parents were.

Asbury Palmer was my great-great-grandfather and oral history says he served in the US Colored Troops during the Civil War, but I cannot locate any documentation to substantiate this. He was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina about 1840.

During my family research, I have noticed quite a few Blacks moved from Marlboro, Dillon, and Marlboro Counties, South Carolina to Privateer, Sumter, South Carolina in the early 1900s. Just curious why they would migrate there.

I am trying to find out the parents of Aaron Kinney who was a member of the US Colored Troops 135th Regiment. He enlisted at Goldsboro, NC in March 1865. He was from Marlboro County, South Carolina. He enlisted along with Alfred Kinney and Spencer Kinney. I would like to know if they were brothers or not.
