Hello, I’m looking to find (my 4th great grandfather) JA Shoemake (John A Shoemake, Cherokee) born in 1803 Craven, South Carolina and died November 1852 in Alabama, on the Dawes roll. He was married to Elizabeth Shoemake. Their sons were (my 3rd great grandfather) Eli B. Shoemake, William Henderson Shoemake, James Preston Shoemake, John Wesley Shoemake and daughter Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Shoemake. I’m needing my 4th or 3rd GGfathers Dawes number. William was able to get his number along with some of his brother kids but he is my Uncle and to be able to do anything I was told I must connect through a grandparent. I did find on this site an application (I think) that was finally approved in 1903 for William. But it does list JA Shoemake as Cherokee. I’m just not sure what I can do with this bit of info as I cannot find him on the rolls. Thank You
