Seeking Cherokee heritage of Charles and Killer Moore (More)

I successfully received my Cherokee citizenship after a year by proving my direct lineage to several Dawes Roll family members. My search on Ancestry.com has given me much of this information to start.

But now I would like to trace my ancestors further back and have hit a bump in the road. My research led me to Jane Killermore, daughter of Killer Nu-Te-Hi-Ta Moore (or Kill More) son of Charles Ti Sa De Ski Moore (or More). The further back I go, the less documentation I can find to validate the information on Ancestry.com family trees. I've also looked at Family Search and My Heritage without much success.

I'm hoping that someone may be familiar with any history of John Ridge and Charles Ti Sa De Ski Moore, who may have been first cousins. The information I've found indicates they may have had adjoining lands in the early 1800's and that they were both part of the Treaty party that signed the Treaty of New Echota. I found the journals of BB Canon indicating that the Moore family left Georgia in March of 1837 along the Northern Route of the Trail of Tears. Jane would have been about 9 or 10 years old at the time.

The Indian census rolls I've found for the times don't specifically mention names of children, only last name head of household. So at this point I'm looking for any narrative sources that may describe their lives before and after the forced migration, in Oklahoma. I've been to the Muskogee library and researched several books but haven't found anything on Charles (lots on John Ridge, of course).

Anyway, if anyone out there is a relative of John Ridge or Charles Ti Sa De Ski More, I'd sure like to know!

Thank you,

Paulette

  • Not sure if my last response went through. I have info on Charles aka Charley Moore (More) and his children, including Killer, who seems to be a step brother from the other kids. Dawes Roll is helpful but so is Guion Miller Roll. His sister Ellen Moore Woodall's kids filled out a bunch of applications for that roll. Would like to talk to you. Thanks, Donna Byas
