Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!
We searched our holdings and located the deck logs of the USS Eaton (DD-510) from December 4, 1942 to December 31, 1945 in Record Group 24: Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Entry P 118-A1, Series: Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships and Stations, 1941–1991. As they have not yet been digitized, you have three options for obtaining access to and copies of these records:
You can visit the National Archives in College Park, MD in person. For information about scheduling a visit please see our website at https://www.archives.gov/college-park. For additional questions about visiting please email us at archives2reference@nara.gov.
You can request a price quote for select documents. To see a list of our reproduction fees, please visit our website at https://www.archives.gov/research/order/fees. Price quotes require your full name and your billing and shipping address. Researchers are asked to keep their request to 3 file units at a time. Should you wish to use this service please send an email to archives2reference@nara.gov with your name, address and the records you seek.
Otherwise, you can hire a private researcher to perform research on your behalf. A list of private researchers who are familiar with National Archives facilities is available on our website at http://www.archives.gov/research/hire-help/index.html.
You may also be interested in Record Group 38: Records of the Chief of Naval Operations, Entry P 17, Series: World War II War Diaries, Other Operational Records and Histories. War diaries consist of monthly operational journals created by various naval commands, shore installations, ships and other activities throughout the Navy, as well as some Marine Corps and non-Navy commands. Similar to a deck log, most war diaries provide a day-to-day record of operational activities and sometimes administrative activities as well. To view our records pertaining to the USS Eaton in this series, we recommend clicking the blue “Search Within This Series” button and entering the name of the ship without “USS” as a prefix.
We invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub, but should you have follow up questions for the staff at Archives II, please email us at archives2reference@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.
We hope this assists you with your research!
