Proper Reference/Citation for Warlogs/DeckLogs

I am writing a book using US Navy Deck-logs and War Diaries compiled from the National Archives. My book uses these logs with my own grandfather’s diary and stories. I have a daily diary referencing the deck-logs joined with my grandfather’s diary and experiences. How do I properly cite/reference these materials from WWII? For instance, Deck-logs from USS Navy, USS New Jersey from June, 1944 - May 1945.

Do I need to reference as a footnote every day/page or can I just reference the log in the back of my book under references?
