Hello there Steven...

I was able to find his compensation document for service, and if you can believe it (have rarely ever seen this) , in the screenshot on the right which would be the "2nd" page, he actually listed the boats/stations he was on and/or served from. Maybe this can give you a good start to do some research too, alongside of my pair of eyes....will add anything else that I should acquire that I know is of his, as there are a few Neary's (Edward) in the state of Penn, and would never chance assumption that any one document was his, only to find out it was not....let me know how your search goes as well Steven, and again, if I find anything solid, I will add it as soon as I can..

In addition to the information provided by the community, we also recommend that you request his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs for Navy enlisted personnel who were separated from the service after January 1, 1886 (January 1, 1903 for officers) are serviced by NARA's National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis.

You'll want to complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002.  If there is any information requested by the form that you do not know, you may omit it or provide estimates (such as for dates), but the more information you provide, the easier it will be to locate the correct file.
