I want to locate the ships' log for US Navy ships from the 1800s. We are trying to determine where the logs are for US Navy ships that were used after the war of 1812. We assume they are in the Archives but aren't sure.

Dear Ms. Young,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships, ca. 1801 - 1940 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24). Some of these logs have been digitized and can be viewed online through the National Archives Catalog. For access to the remaining logs, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
