Deck Logs for LST Class Landing Ships, WWII

Seeking information for my grandfather, SM3c Delbert Earl Scudder.  He served as a signalman during the Invasion of Normandy on LST Class Landing Ships and he was discharged on April 5, 1946 although the date is barely legible on his documents.  I believe that he served on LST-529, USS Cayuga County, and possibly on a couple different ships during his enlistment.  Any information would be greatly appreciated!

  • Darin,

I was doing some research on my wife’s uncle’s ship in WW2.  We visited him today in Needham, MA. He’s almost 98 and is pretty sharp for his age. I knew he was on an LST at Normandy but I wanted to get some more facts. It was LST 529 and he too was a SM3c. Robert Quinan. He was also a coxswain on one of the ship’s LCVPs which he drove in the first wave at Omaha Beach. We talked about his service but he won’t discuss D Day. He saw too much.

BTW I’m a retired Navy CPO.

    Cheers,
