We have searched the National Archives Catalog for any records referencing "Lindner, Robert Paul." We were unable to locate any records relating to this individual.

Although prisoners of war were the responsibility of the Office of the Provost Marshal General, U.S. Army (Record Group 389), very few files among these records pertain to individual prisoners of war. Indeed, most of the records in this record group pertain to policy and general matters pertaining to the prisoner of war camps.

We have searched records located in the series titled World War II Prisoner of War Rosters, 1942–1947 (Record Group 389) and located an entry for Robert Lindner that includes his name and his identification number.

Among the Records of the Army Staff (Record Group 319) are the Investigative Records Repository (IRR) files accessioned by the National Archives from the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (USAINSCOM). The IRR files are military intelligence and Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) files maintained by USAINSCOM and its predecessor organizations. We searched the index of textual and digital IRR files for any records on Robert Paul Lindner. We were unable to locate any records on this individual.

We also undertook a search of the records of the Captured Personnel and Materials Branch (CPMB) among the Records of the War Department General and Special Staffs (Record Group 165) and the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act records among the Records of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) (Record Group 263). These searches met with a negative result.

Further, we searched records located in the series titled Prisoner Summary Sheets, 1945–1948 in the Records of United States Army, Europe (Record Group 549). We were unable to locate any records on Mr. Lindner.

Next, we searched records located in the series titled European Name Index to the Series "Case Files, 1944-1949", 1944–1949 in the Records of the Office of the Judge Advocate General (Army) (Record Group 153). We were unable to locate any records relating to Robert Lindner.

If Mr. Lindner settled in Germany during the early postwar period, he was required to complete the denazification process. The content of these denazification tribunal (Spruchkammer) files can often provide information concerning periods of internment as a prisoner of war. These files can be found in the following German archival institutions:

The personnel records of World War II German prisoners of war were returned to Germany. For access to these records, please write to the Bundesarchiv, Abteilung PA (formerly the Deutsche Dienststelle, or WASt), Eichborndamm 179, 13403 Berlin, Germany. The email address is: poststelle-pa@bundesarchiv.de
