Not sure if it helps, but his interment file at LI National Cemetery is extremely skimpy. It lists the following info only:
Patrick J. Cullen
SGT, US Army
WWII 09/22/1942 - 03/01/1946
NOK - not related, Ann De West

What does NOK not related mean? Who is Ann de West
Is that the only information available in cemetery about him? No in on where he died?Did you get that information from cemetery?
What's your secret for getting access to that file and NOK? They were adamant they could only give out what's on the stone when I went there.
Next of Kin
NOK, next-of-kin. Except for the fact that Ann De West was unrelated, haven't a clue. This is not unusual, She may simply be the person, friend, whomever, who requested interment in this national cemetery. Likely no one claimed the remains when he died, whatever jurisdiction it occurred in did a cursory search for NOK and came up empty. She provides proof it's him (it could have been a funeral home), VA checks his eligibility and he's in. We (the American Legion) do dozens of interments of unclaimed veteran's remains every year. You could try and find this "Ann" person, but his death and that skimpy record are 50+ years old, so the odds are slim to none for finding anything. As others have suggested, his mil records are your best bet, assuming they survived the "73 fire.
That's it, and it's not unusual. It's a simple index card that's been digitized.
No comment, sorry!
NOK Not Related means that the person listed as "Next of Kin" wasn't related to him--could have been a friend, could have been a landlord, could have been the registrar at the hospital where he died. There's really no way of knowing.
I rang from Ireland and cemetery would not give me any information. I explained I am probably his niece. I will phone cemetery again and quote information given here.
I have been told his records destroyed in fire
