Liz:
Using all we've done here, I've updated the info on the gravesite in Findagrave to reflect proper birth and death places. If your grandparents are in Findagrave, if you provide their "FindaGave Memorial ID" (found at the bottom of the webpage), I can link their memorials to your uncle's. Or if your father is, I can link him as a brother.
Donald, they are not on Find a Grave. Please remove photo as I am still not sure It is my uncle. Thanks for all your help. Liz
Thanks to everyone for all your help
Not necessarily. Because it says "or other responsible person." I believe the redacted information is that of Ann De West, which Trajan provided earlier. And nobody was buried with him. Now, admittedly, sometimes wives remarry and get buried with their later husbands, but still, it makes you wonder.
Additionally, I searched New York and Pennsylvania marriages from 1929 to 1968 on Ancestry and MyHeritage and didn't come up with a match, which again would lead me to believe he wasn't married. Could he have married in another state? Perhaps. But more likely if he did get married, it was a local girl--and there's no record that I've been able to find of him getting married.
What is the name and location of the cemetery? I can add it in Findagrave.
I believe W.B. Cooke is still in business here in NY, although maybe not at that location, and maybe part of some huge conglomerate of funeral homes. If you're VERY, VERY lucky they may have records. Then if you're even luckier, they may even release them to you! Of course it is NY, so sincere good luck with that one!!
Service/Serial number 33293459 is the same in several documents, the Patrick buried in Long Island and other documents relating to Patrick. I presume it is correct Patrick???
Trajan, I phoned them. They said they did not have records from sixties. Liz
Correct. WE can trace him from his burial record to his service record--his request for payment from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania lists Dr. Dunne as a point of contact and his birthdate and birthplace, and his draft card lists his birthdate and birthplace and also lists Dr. Dunne (but, obviously, no serial number). So Dr. Dunne and the Serial number allow us to link everything together.
Is it 100% conclusive, to six decimal places? No. But the fact that there are no records for any other Patrick Cullens born on that date, in Ireland, who served in the US Armed forces--or, for that matter, who show up anywhere in the US--help to reinforce the fact that this is your uncle. And we have the manifest of the ship he arrived on.
Normally I wouldn't take the absence of evidence as proof of something. But in this case, we have one person who matches the data, and nobody else who comes anywhere close to doing so. So it serves to reinforce the belief that he's the right guy.
It's about as solid a case as we can get, absent a descendent or an obituary to provide corroboration.
So you're just going to have to accept "yes" for an answer.
