Hello chris....is there any other information you have or know of even slightly that you would be willing to share in order to get a more accurate search for you at all..? Birth year, first name, a state he may have lived in...anythig would help in the search for him chris....

HIs name was Gene Putman and was from Lewistown, Illinois. He served from 1966 to 1969 in special forces. He was born in 1944... I don't have much more than that unfortunately. 

You can submit a request for a copy of his records as his next of kin. See this website. It helps if you have his social security number or service number, but you may still be able to get a copy of his records.

There are lots of informational instructions. When you get to the "remarks" block, enter "request complete copy of file--not an extract"

Hi Donald, Unfortunately Gene was not listed as my father at birth and is not legally listed anywhere as that so I don't think I will easily be able to request information on the basis of next of kin despite that being the case. I do have a social security number but that's all I have, well that and his birth details, Army dates of enlistment and discharge but no idea of his division or where he was based etc.. That's what I'm hoping to discover.

Hi Chris, I am in the same position in so far as no paternity is established. I did request records and have the same information as you do. I did receive his exit records which has now provided me with divisions and his service number! I did not have to offer birth or death certificates. Give it a try! Good luck! 

Hi, did you request his full records as well? I'm interested in knowing his postings and what campaigns he was involved in etc...
