NPRC has tried to find military records for my father, Joseph E. Rush, but due to needing SSN or military ID number (which I do not have) cannot locate said records. How do I find these numbers to provide to NPRC to continue their search?

Hello backroads
It would be likely that your father served under a Service Number, rather than a Social Security Number, and not a DOD ID number. We can locate service numbers by cross-checking certain information.
Please submit a new request and provide as much information as is possible, including name, place of birth, date of birth, branch of service, and time period of service. It is possible, if your father served with the United States Army or United States Air Force, that his record was affected by the 1973 fire, and additional information may be requested.
