Help with records destroyed in 1973 fire.

I requested records for my grandfather through NPRC and was told his records were probably destroyed in the fire in 1973. Where might I find additional records? He was discharged from the army on november  26th 1926. He was from Indiana and was stationed in Kentucky. at Fort Thomas. His name was Thomas B. Stanley. Dob is april 9th 1907. Thank you in advance.  I did get a copy of his Final Pay Voucher.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!

The Textual Reference Archives II Branch (RR2R) has custody of unit histories and supporting documents for Army units for the period 1917 through 1953.  However, records for Army units active during the interwar periods (1920-1939 and 1945-1950) are incomplete. If you are aware of the unit your grandfather was assigned to, and wish to have a search conducted for responsive records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RR2R) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub, but should you have follow up questions for the staff at Archives II, please email us at archives2reference@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.

We hope this assists you with your research!
