Navy ship for Phillip C Dyson -about 1942. Need to find a picture of the Ship he served on.

Question

My Father entered WWII AROUND AGE 17, which would be about 1942. I wanted to find a picture of which Navy ship he served on. A older sibling took the pic and will not duplicate for the remaking 7 children. As a result I am trying to get access to the photo and specifics from this website.  For your research, it would first be helpful to identify which ship your father served on. If you haven't done so already, you can request his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF), which would likely include information about his service. For more information about how to request personnel records from the National Archives' National Personnel Record Center (NPRC), please visit our website https://www.archives.gov/veterans . Specifically, members of the military who separated between 1962-present can be found at the NPRC, while those who separated between 1912-1961 can be found at the National Archives at St. Louis . 
 Then, once you've identified the ship, you may wish to explore the online catalog . This is a keyword searchable database. If you find what you need through the database, you may download what is available online, however, please note the majority of the holdings of the Still Picture Branch have not been digitized. To access the highest resolution file of any image online, be sure to use the download button beneath the photo. 
 With that said, you may also wish to explore the Naval History and Heritage Command's (NHHC) website . They have a list of digitized photographs of ships available online . Additionally, the website NavSource also has a selection of photos of ships. Please note that both the NHHC and NavSource include photographs from the collections of the Still Picture Branch, as well as other outside sources.
