Was my grandfather injured in the Port Chicago San Francisco Explosion in July 1944?

Hello. My grandfather was honorably discharged from the USCG San Francisco in August 1944. We know he lost his vision in one eye in an explosion but we don't know any other details. We suspect that it happened during the Port Chicago Explosion in July 1944. Can anyone please recommend how I can verify this? www.spk.usace.army.mil/.../

 Personnel and medical records for persons that served in the United States Coast Guard and are deceased, retired or discharged January 1, 1898 through March 31, 1998 are held at the National personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO. 
 If your grandfather was injured in an explosion while serving in the United States Coast Guard during 1944, the information would be contained within his personnel and medical files that can be requested from the National Personnel Record Center in St. Louis, MO via E-Vetrecs .
