Trying to find a photo of PVT James H. "Harry" Shuttlesworth from WWI

Hi! I came across the gravestone for WWI veteran (KIA) PVT James H. "Harry" Shuttlesworth today in Fairmont, WV, and wanted to look further into his life. I found an article about a memorial service for him (1919), and his WWI draft card, but was hoping someone had more information on him. I don't currently have access to Fold3, which puts a damper on my searching abilities.

Here's what I know about him:

PVT James H. "Harry" Shuttlesworth

Born in Worthington, West Virginia

According to his draft card, born July 29, 1895

Died November 10, 1918 in France

Co B 128 Inf

Thank you for any help you can offer!

The Still Picture Branch does not have portraits/headshots or group photos taken during training. According to the Military, graduates’ formal photos, both individual and group, were taken by private local commercial photographers and offered for sale at the time taken. Unfortunately those items never became part of official military records nor were they retained by the commercial photographers responsible for shooting the photos. The Still Picture Branch has many candid photos of U.S. Military personnel but in most of them, there is no identification of the people shown. We have a name index, filed by the last name where we did a search, however there were no images located for James H. “Harry” Shuttlesworth.

If you have not done so already, you can request their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). It is possible that a photograph could be attached to the OMPF. For more information about how to request personnel records from the National Archives' National Personnel Record Center (NPRC), please visit our website here: https://www.archives.gov/veterans.

We invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub, but should you have follow up questions for the staff at Archives II, please email us at stillpix@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.

We hope this assists you with your research!
