1. USSF School Nha Trang, South Vietnam 4th May 1967 2. 12-11 (Intelligence Section), Military Assistance Command Vietnam. 3. US Special Forces Camp Pliejarang Central Highlands, South Vietnam in late 1967 . 4. SEAL Team Nha Bhe, Mekong; South Vietnam

Hello from Australia. I am undertaking some research on Captain Jack Fletcher Australian Army who served alongside US Army and Navy Special Forces in Vietnam 1967-68. His Australian records show as follows.

"To Nha Trang, South Vietnam 4th May 1967 for duty Headquarters Australian Force Vietnam with 12-11 (Intelligence Section), Military Assistance Command Vietnam and advised General WESTMORELAND on surface reconnaissance and surveillance.

Also worked from Free World Headquarters Saigon and was Australian Special Air Service Regiment Liaison Officer and advisor to the commander Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon.

To duty Thai Special Forces Headquarters Lop Bun, Thailand October 1967 plus duty Special Forces Camp Pliejarang Central Highlands, South Vietnam and the US Navy Sea Air and Land (SEAL) Team Nha Bhe, Mekong; South Vietnam.

Officer completed a parachute descent in Thailand 3rd October 1967 and an operational descent in South Vietnam on 10th November 1967."

I am seeking specific information on the following.

1. Any details available to support the role of advisor o the commander Tan Son Nhut Air Base.
2. I am particularly interested in details of the visit to Lop Buri, Thailand (THAI SF School) and Special Forces Camp Pliejarang Central Highlands, South Vietnam. Which US SF and Vietnamese units were in Pliejarang in late 1967 and were there any ongoing significant combat operations underway at that time?
3. US Navy Sea Air and,Land (SEAL) Team Nha Bhe, Mekong. Which SEAL team and any detail of operations around late 1967?
4. Are there any further details available on the parachute descents on 3/10/1967 in Thailand and
10/11/1967 in Vietnam— the purpose of the jumps, where, who it was with (I assume US) as these were not combat jumps undertaken by Australian SASR. in Vietnam.
As I am very unaccustomed to the very complex US DoD and National Archives collections any information or direction to web sites would be greatly appreciated. Regards from down under to all on this wonderful site. Aussie Commando.

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub! The Textual Reference Archives II Branch (RR2RR) has custody of the Records of the United States Forces in Southeast Asia, 1950 - 1975 (Record Group 472) for U.S. Army units. These records consist mostly of unit organizational histories, after action reports, unit daily staff journals, and general orders. The files are arranged by unit, and identification of the unit is necessary to perform an effective search. They do not include personnel or medical information. We do not have a name index to these records.

There are several entries of records related to the 5th Special Forces Group within RG 472. We also have entries documenting Free World Military Forces, including some awards case files. For more information about these non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RR2R) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

Individual Jump Records (DA Form 1307) would be kept within the Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) of the Army servicemen who participated in the parachute jumps. You would have to know their names. Certain information in the records is not available to the general public without the written consent of the Veteran or the next of kin the deceased veteran.

For access to post-WWII U.S. Navy operational records, please contact the Naval History and Heritage Command Archives, via email at archives@navy.mil or call (202) 433-3224. Before contacting them, we suggest reading through the Reference FAQs.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!

    Sincerely,
Textual Reference Archives II Branch (RR2RR)
