Seeking military exit from Fort Mason Texas in 1800’s and route traveled when they left

Question

Seeking military exit from Fort Mason Texas in 1800&rsquo;s and route traveled when they left. 
 I believe US 2nd Calvary exited Fort Mason prior to civil war and traveled to Indianapolis in mid 1800&rsquo;s. Route used (I believe) was through Texas Hill Country, the San Antonio. 
 any journal/diary information from officers from these travels?

This collection of Albert G. Brackett, with the 2nd US Cavalry, contains letters written while he was in Texas, including ones from Fort Mason. https://txarchives.org/drtsa/finding_aids/00001.xml 
 There is a "contact" button on the left hand side of the page for the repository of these letters, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. They are probably not available online, but the DRT might be able to copy the relevant letters for you.

 With sincere apologies for the late response to your inquiry, while it appears our community has provided some resources that you have considered, the National Archives does not have personal journals/diaries from officers pertaining to their experiences during their military service. 
 
 The National Archives is the repository of the permanently valuable historical records of the United States Government. 
 
 Any journals/diaries kept by officers during their service may have been donated to the Library of Congress and/or private institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin. 
 
 Finally, we have conducted a cursory search of records pertaining to Fort Mason, TX and the 2nd US Cavalry prior to the Civil War during the 1850s. We were unable to identify any specific records for that time period. While we may have other information--if it exists-- that may have been dispersed elsewhere among the records at Archives 1, identifying all potential records will require more detailed information from you and also more detailed research than we are staffed to provide.
